WELCOME

We are the only NPO and PBO in South Africa dedicated to assisting indigent pet owners with orthopedic procedures for their small animal pets. These pets, whose owners cannot afford the services of private veterinarians, would otherwise either live in pain, have their limb amputated or be humanely euthanised. With the help of our generous donors and our veterinary service providers we aim to help these pets live a pain free life.

Whisper's Story

A member of the public saw a dog lying on the side of the road in Alberton. Being a Sunday, they rushed her to a 24-hour emergency vet where X-Rays revealed three broken legs.

She was stabilised and then transferred to Brackenhurst Veterinary Hospital where she underwent surgery. After a gruelling six-hour long marathon surgery, Dr Bholla and Dr Candice Ehlers put sweet Whisper back together again. Her injuries were more chronic than initially thought, as there was severe muscle contraction around the fractures which made the realignment of the bones a struggle. Thankfully her radiographs looked good, and she’s recovering well and started taking her first steps just days after surgery. She’s progressing well and will go onto make a full recovery and live a life full of the love she deserves.

Bella's Story

Bella was struggling to walk for months. Her owner had taken her for an initial assessment at the AACL, this included taking radiographs. her right hip was sub-luxated and not within the joint space it should be. Various options were considered, and a procedure called FHNE (Femur head and neck excision) was the best option. She was kept comfortable with pain medication in the time leading up to the surgery as she developed a cough requiring treatment. After a slight delay we were back on track and her surgery went ahead. Despite the amount of degeneration in this joint, Dr Bholla was able to successfully perform the surgery. Bella was able to start her recovery. We are really pleased with her excellent progress and more importantly is able to start living a quality life free of pain, much to her owner’s delight.

Sky's Story

Sky was found close to Sky City Mall; she recently had puppies but sustained serious injuries to her front legs and paws. Rescue organisations desperately searched for her owner and puppies. She was immediately taken to Brackenhurst Veterinary Hospital for treatment. Under anesthesia her wounds was accessed and cleaned. X-Rays revealed a broken leg and broken toe on the other leg. Surgery was unfortunately delayed due to a serious infection. Following treatment surgery took place and everything went well. She is making good progress under Dr Ajit Bholla and his team. A decision was made to postpone further surgery to the other leg, as her infection still needed to clear in that area. She is really in good spirits and getting better by the day, we look forward to her next round of treatment and her making a full recovery.
